Baskets from Africa was started approximately 16 years ago in Dundee, Northern KwaZulu Natal by two enterprising farmer's wives who recognized the talents of local women in creating woven items from an indigenous plant.
Today, ten weavers, two welders and two welding assistants from the local community hand make woven products from start to finish using natural materials. Branches are sourced and then cut by hand from the lands surrounding Dundee and as far as the towns of Nqutu and Malonjeni. The steel frames are individually cut, assembled, welded and primed before being delivered to the weaver’s homes for the branches to be skilfully applied.
Our weavers and welders are incredibly proud of these hand-crafted products and trust you will enjoy them.
